I’ll start with a little about me.
As a child born in the 80s, I had many allergies which went away but about five years ago came back. I am allergic to nuts (except almonds & hazelnuts), mustard, avocado, kiwi, banana and mushrooms. I am also intolerant to cows dairy, eggs and wheat – I can have these but in moderation, so if I do have them, it has to be worth it.
Luckily, I enjoy cooking and grew up on home cooked meals. Nothing went to waste and I try my hardest to continue with what I was taught. Adapting our well loved recipes is pretty easy as there are so many free from products to be found in most supermarkets or online suppliers. Which is great, but for the days when I can’t be bothered to cook and want to order in, things get a little bit tricky. These are the days when I allow myself to enjoy the foods I’m intolerant to with a dirty burger or a feast from our Indian restaurant.
I live in Hampshire with my husband where we’re pretty content and thankfully he enjoys most of my cooking and is used to me appearing with a spoonful of whatever I’m whipping up for him to taste. When I’m not cooking, I’m reading cookbooks both new and old. I often treat them like novels and I enjoy some of the stories the authors share. The only difference is I might have a notepad on hand to make a note of any recipes or flavours I want to try. I’m also guilty of making notes in cookbooks for any tweaks I’ve made to the recipes in case I forget next time round and sometimes put a cross on the pages not to try again. It feels wrong to mark the pages in a book but in my defence, I use pencil so if I end up donating the book later down the line, the new owner can always rub them out.
I like cooking quick and easy meals but more often than not I end up doing something more complicated than I intended to. I’m also a feeder. If anyone comes round to our house I always make sure they are well fed before they leave and even offer food for them to take with them. I cannot wait to be able to share our table again with our loved ones!
The intention of my site is to share the food and drink that I love, my experiments both good and bad, cookbooks that I think are worth adding to your collection and anything else I think up along the way. I can’t promise good photos or good writing but I can promise kindness, honesty and a love of food.
